The aim of the study was to determine the conditions for further development of cognitive tourism in the Altai region, which is the area of colonization formated for a half-century of the many peoples of the former Tsarist and Soviet Russia. To achieve the goal we used case studies and methods of historical analysis of the geographical environment of immigrants in the steppe and foothill areas of Altai province. Environmental, moral and patriotic education and education of the population of all ages and social groups is indispensable for creating a friendly environment of the tourist.
