Abstract :
The master's dissertation is devoted to the study and elucidation of the ways of translating legal professionalisms on the example of the texts of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement. The relevance of this research is driven by the need to ensure the accuracy and unambiguity of legal documents that impact on the political, economic and social aspects of Ukraine's integration into the European Union. This issue is of great importance for future and professional translators, as well as for scientists specializing in translation, law and international relations.
The main methods used to achieve successful research results were the thesaurus method, the method of comparative translation analysis and comparative analysis. First of all, the relevant scientific literature was studied to define the theoretical aspects of the concept of legal discourse, the essence and problems of defining the concepts of ‘term’ and ‘professionalism’, to determine their common and distinctive features, and to clarify the peculiarities of an international agreement in the linguistic and translation aspects, as well as general approaches and peculiarities of translation of legal texts. Further, there are presented general approaches to the typology of professionalisms and their ways of creation. The classifications and ways of forming terms in the French language were also considered, and a classification for French legal professionalisms was proposed, which is relevant for this study.
In the practical part, the study examined translation transformations, their types and peculiarities of application in legal texts. In the result of the study, the most frequent and the least frequent cases of using different types of translation strategies were identified on the example of the texts of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, also typical mistakes in the translation of international law documents and in the translation of legal professionalisms were presented.
