Abstract :
The diploma thesis is dedicated to the analysis of lexical and stylistic features in the translation of the film «Me Before You» into the Ukrainian language. Specifically, it examines the importance and impact of lexical-stylistic elements on expression, conveying emotions, and the stylistic specificity of speech. The authors emphasize the significance of analyzing lexical-stylistic features in the context of lexicology, where the semantics of words and their variability in different contexts are studied.
The focus of the work is on the characters and dialogues of the film, particularly Louisa and William, as well as their emotional experiences. The study explores how expressiveness and emotionality are manifested through lexical choices in translation. It is noted that the translators took into account the context of the film and the cultural peculiarities of Ukraine while preserving the accuracy and appropriateness of the translation.
The analysis of specific phrases indicates successful conveyance of the main sense, and suggests opportunities for improvement in emotional expression. Examples of alternative translations are provided to enhance emotional intensity.
The specificity of the film, blending romance, drama, and social aspects, is underscored through the examination of lexical and stylistic features. The authors argue that the film effectively addresses complex themes such as the value of life, the right to suicide, and the role of love.
The conclusion emphasizes the overall high quality of the translation while pointing out specific areas for improvement. The work also highlights the impact of translation on the perception of the film by the Ukrainian audience, noting its positive reception among critics and viewers.
The analysis of the film and its translation allows an understanding that a well-chosen vocabulary in the Ukrainian version contributes to preserving the intonations and emotions of the original. It is crucial to note that some translation variants discussed in the study may be subject to discussion based on individual translator perceptions and the translation's purpose.
It is essential to consider that translation is a task requiring not only linguistic skills but also the ability to convey the expressiveness and nuances of the original. A revelation in the research is that the emotional richness of the translation can influence the viewer's perception of characters and the plot.
Additionally, an important part of the work was identifying the lexical features of romantic dramas that define the style and expressiveness in the characters' images. It is clear that such an analysis can be valuable for future research in the fields of linguistics and translation studies.
Diversifying translation methods and considering the specificity of each expression will enable to achieve an even higher degree of accuracy and emotional richness in translating romantic dramas.
