English on Twitter

The aim. This paper will focus on social media and Twitter as important social phenomena and mainly concentrate on language use in tweets.
The object of the research is the Internet discourse and social media as its genre.
The subject of the research is the language of Twitter as a part of Internet discourse, paying special attention to the peculiarities of language use like the choice of vocabulary and grammar constructions and characterizing the predominant tendencies.
The quantitative and qualitative methods were used to collect the tweets and analyze their main concepts, and investigate the peculiarities of the use of English;
The empirical methods such as observation, comparison, description and monitoring were applied to investigate the main tendencies in vocabulary and grammar on Twitter;
The methods of analysis and synthesis of information were used to highlight the main areas of research in the virtual space, to determine the characteristics of the features of Twitter communication;
Lexical-semantic and contextual analyzes were applied to identify lexical units typical of the communication of different types of speakers from various spheres in Twitter.
