In Taras Shevchenko's works the motif of sin and punishment are interpreting sacral history and its consequences for the contemporaries and offsprings. Through the prism of personal and collective sins the artist considers the past, shows wide observation of present and future and implements it in Christian notions "sin – punishment – remorse – salvation". Personal or collective sin is presenting as a combination of personal sins referring to Ukraine. These sins include apostasy, betrayal, selfishness, cruelty, war, fratricide, revenge and passivity. Due to this images of national leaders in the poetry have archetypical fundamentals of heroes/ anti-heroes.
