Mass-media texts, as distinct from the belles-lettres texts, represent an institutionalized type of discourse which is regulated by a variety of specialized legislative acts as well as by general legislation prohibiting, for instance, linguistic extremism (appeals to violence, unleashing interethnic and religious hostility etc.), circulation of the false information damaging personal dignity or business reputation etc. Linguistic expert examinations of the media texts containing assaults against personal dignity or business reputation usually focus on the following major issues: 1) presence or absence of the negative information about a physical person or a legal entity, 2) linguistic form of the expressed negative information: whether it is a subjective evaluative statement or a assertive statement, 3) the degree of social acceptability / unacceptability of the expressed subjective opinion (diagnosis the obscene and humiliating character of the textual material under analysis). Well-argued linguistic separation of factual statements from the expressions of subjective opinion, that can be both explicit and implicit, is one of the key elements of expert examination of the conflict mass media text.
