Abstract :
The study on chimeric prose “Chimeric prose: texts and scientific interpretations” by Oleksandra Gryshyna looks into chimeric novel as a phenomenon of Ukrainian literature, into its characteristics and history. Study dives into rarely discussed topic of the differences between Ukrainian chimeric prose and other variations of magical realism from all over the world.
Chimeric prose is discovered and rediscovered once and again, writers turn to the style constantly and scientists keep on researching. We can see a lively discourse around the topic, we may notice lots of unanswered questions, which causes relevance of this study.
The novelty is caused by studying never before published novel “The Haunting of the Balloons” by Alexandra Dellenga. The novelty also comes from looking into rarely discussed topic of chimeric literature in global contest of magical realism, study proves that tendency of writing magical-realistic style appears among the postcolonial communities and is opposing to west rationality. Study shows Ukrainian chimeric literature as unique and different in lots of ways from other magical-realistic styles, it shows which parts of Ukrainian historical conditions and Ukrainian authenticity contributed to making chimeric prose special. In this study chimeric prose is looked at as a phenomenon of literature adapting to harsh soviet regime of XX century. Study shows chimeric writers as a Hidden Renaissance, for they were forced to encrypt true meanings and message of their work, hide behind weird and phantasmagorical.
This research dives into the role of Ukrainian chimeric prose in XX century and its role in today`s world. In this work we are focusing on uniqueness of chimeric prose amongst world numerous variations of magical realism. Study also looks into the story of writing chimeric novel “Haunting of the Balloons”, biographic conditions of its author, selected pieces of novel are studied in context of chimeric style and its chimeric traits are discovered in this study.
