The article presents main aspets of ethnocentrism as a mechanism to save cultural identity. Since ethnocentrism is usually perceived as a negative phenomenon, we try to present it from another side. After conductiong the research, we come to the conclusion that ethnocentrism is one of the best ways preserve and maintain etnic identity. Key words: ethnocentrism, flexible ethnocentrism, non-flexible ethnocentrism, ethnicity, culture, ethnic consciousness, identity, in-groups, out-groups.
