Abstract :
The relevance of the topic is due to the growing popularity of the fantasy genre in the modern world, and, accordingly, the need to study the mythological basis of this genre.
The purpose of the study is to comprehend the mythological elements of Terry Pratchett's work from the Disco World cycle, to analyze the figurative paradigm created by the author on the basis of mythology.
The main objectives of the study are to determine the mythological basis of the Disco World cycle, to analyze its images and cosmology.
The object of the study is the literary cycle “Diskosvit” translated by the Old Lion Publishing House, and the subject is the mythological images and the world order in this cycle. To achieve the aim of the work, various research methods were developed, in particular, comparison methods to identify common and distinctive features between the author's image and his mythical prototype.
The first chapter discusses the theoretical aspects of the relationship between author's literature and folklore, as well as provides general information about the author. Chapter 2 is devoted to the analysis of the mythical world in the author's interpretation, in particular, the structure of the city of Ankh-Morpork. Section 3 discusses the profane, demonic, and divine images of the cycle and compares them with their mythical counterparts.
The author of Discworld has managed to create a unique universe in which the myths of different peoples of the world are harmoniously combined. The paper shows that the mythology of each nation has a local flavor and uniqueness, and thus can be easily identified in the context of the author's work. The study analyzes and comments on the difference between the author's interpretation and original mythological elements.
