Способи відтворення прагматичного потенціалу політичних промов у перекладі (на прикладі виступів В. Зеленського)

Вперше здійснюється спроба ґрунтовного аналізу способів відтворення прагматичного потенціалу політичних промов на основі перекладу виступів Володимира Зеленського. Досліджено особливості відтворення прагматичного потенціалу політичних промов у перекладі на прикладі виступів Володимира Зеленського перед урядами таких країн, як Велика Британія, Сполучені Штати Америки, Канада та Німеччина, а також на прикладі виступу на Мюнхенській конференції, оскільки цей переклад ще не був об'єктом детального аналізу в українсько-англійському бінарному зіставленні.

This paper aims to study the approaches to rendering the pragmatic potential of modern political speeches (based on Volodymyr Zelenskyy's discourse) and to form a system of theoretical and practical knowledge required for translating political addresses from Ukrainian into English.
Based on the works of Ukrainian and foreign scholars, in the first section, we define the concept of political speech, its role in political discourse and in society as a whole, and the impact of speech on people's emotions and thoughts. The specifics of political speech are analyzed by functions and genres. In the research, we analyze "Fulton" type of speech. This is precisely what Volodymyr Zelenskyy's speeches are, as they are delivered in a challenging time for the country and are intended to convince world politicians and even change their opinions about Ukraine. The second part of the paper examines the rendering of the pragmatic potential of lexical and stylistic means in Volodymyr Zelenskyy's political speeches. The President uses many lexical devices such as quantitative indicators, references to well-known historical events, allusions, uses historical and political terms. In turn, the translator uses a number of techniques to reproduce the speaker's words. We can distinguish the following means of rendering: equivalent translation, transcription, adaptive transcription, addition, transposition, and many others. Along with lexical means, Volodymyr Zelenskyy uses several stylistic devices: repetition, gradation, parcellation, metaphor, rhetorical question, juxtaposition. The results of the study show that the most commonly used means of rendering these thropes are equivalent translation and transposition. Less common is the use of the transformation of omission and addition. In the course of our research, we find that the translator fails to render some metaphors and ellipsis. This is due to fixed lexical and grammatical structures in both languages. In this case, the translator must put preserving the meaning of the message above rendering the metaphor or any other device.
To conclude, the most productive translation transformations are equivalent translation, transposition, transcription, omission and addition. President Zelenskyy rarely uses complex figures of speech, his speeches are always concise, which is why the translation methods chosen by the translator to render the pragmatic potential are appropriate and effective in most cases.
This study focuses exclusively on the approaches to rendering pragmatic potential in speeches by Volodymyr Zelenskyy. That is why the prospects for further research on the topic of our study have the potential to expand the scope of analysis of political speeches by other politicians, and it can assist in identifying general features and specificities of rendering pragmatic potential in the translation of political speeches.
