The article deals with the problem of realization of the phoneme /r/ by germanizing the borrowings from English and French, which are the most frequent in the German language. Wide variety of implementation of the phoneme /r/ is revealed either in the codified norm in German phonetic dictionaries or in the real norm of pronunciation, which is produced by professional German TV announcers.
