Moreover, these lexical coinages have transcended the boundaries of the books and become cultural touchstones, recognized and adopted beyond the Harry Potter fandom. The study of these neologisms sheds light on the creativity of Rowling as a writer and emphasizes the importance of language in storytelling and world-building. Overall, this research holds relevance in understanding the linguistic, literary, and cultural significance of these lexical coinages in the broader context.
The creation of new lexical coinages in the Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling has significant relevance both in the literary world and in the broader cultural context. Research objectives:
1. To conduct a comprehensive review of the Harry Potter books and compile a list of all new lexical coinages created by J.K. Rowling.
2. To categorize the new lexical coinages based on their linguistic properties, including their form, meaning, and usage in the Harry Potter books.
3. To investigate the origins of the new lexical coinages by analyzing their etymology and linguistic roots.
4. To examine the impact of the new lexical coinages on the literary and cultural significance of the Harry Potter books by conducting a reader response analysis and reviewing critical literature on the topic.
5. To discuss the implications of the new lexical coinages for language creation and language use in literature, as well as their potential impact on popular culture and the broader linguistic landscape.
The object of this research are the new lexical coinages in Harry Potter books created by J.K. Rowling.
The subject of the research is the linguistic and cultural significance of the new lexical coinages in the Harry Potter books.
The research material was “Harry Potter and the philosopher's stone” and "Harry Potter and the Chamber of secrets", with a total volume of 1,600 pages. Of these, 50 neologisms were identified, which will be analyzed in the work.
The work consists of an introduction, two chapters – theoretical and practical, conclusions to each of them, general conclusions and a list of references – 33 titles.
