Approaches to the study and management of this phenomenon in Western culture continuously changing over the last 150 years, based on researches, theories and practices applied in organizations and which have demonstrated positive results. In general, today it is clear that the era of mechanical models organizations ended and in the competitive world began the new era of biological models which intensively uses knowledge, information flows and technology. Based on this perception changes in the perceived sources of motivation occur.Найбільш актуальне питання для сучасних соціальних структур полягає в постійному підтриманню мотивації учасників на достатньо високому рівні, що йде всупереч адаптивному біологічно закладеному прагненню збереження ресурсів (чи то фізичних, чи психічних). Підходи до вивчення та управління цим феноменом змінювались в західній культурі останні 150 років, виходячі з досліджень, теорій та практик, що застосовувались в організаціях та демонстрували позитивний результат. В цілому на сьогодні стає зрозумілим, що закін- чилася ера механічної моделі організацій і в конкурентному світі почалося застосування біологічної моделі, яка інтенсивно використовує знання, потоки інформації і технології.
