Almanac of Ukrainian Studies(33), 189–194. https://doi.org/10.17721/2520-2626/2023.33.2410.17721/2520-2626/2023.33.24https://ir.library.knu.ua/handle/15071834/17215The article analyzes the essence and characteristic features of Russian military aggression and its manifestations in the conditions of an aggressive war against the civilian population of the occupied city of Melitopol of independent Ukraine. It has been established that the danger of the Russian-Ukrainian war lies in the fact that it poses an existential threat to Ukraine, calls into question the democratic path of our country to the European community, destroying the "fragility of being" for every person. It was revealed that these difficult days for the people of Melitopol became a test of endurance and stability, unity and mutual assistance, wisdom and prudence of the entire multi-ethnic community of the city, which includes about 100 nationalities and ethnic groups, among which deep age-old traditions of good neighborliness and mutual respect have taken root. In the cultural and educational sphere, the occupation authorities of the city banned both the state language and the languages of the national communities, by forcing schools and kindergartens to switch to the Russian language and Russian programs. However, from the very first days, the people of Melitopol united in good deeds and support: charitable foundations, public organizations, churches united their efforts to support those who had the hardest time. Dozens of nationalities, thousands of people and one main slogan "Melitopol - Ukraine", which was chanted under the sights of enemy machine guns, confirming that the strength of our community lies in unity and cohesion. It is claimed that neither the full-scale invasion nor the occupation of the city broke the people of Melitopol and did not destroy the special feeling of intercultural unity and mutual support. Using the example of the temporarily occupied city of Melitopol, the role of public resistance and solidarity in countering the ideology of the "Russian Peace" and bringing about a victorious peace is shown. Emphasis was placed on the fact that faith in the victory of Ukraine and all the work to bring it closer is the main priority for all Ukrainians, including the multicultural community of Melitopol residents.У статті аналізується сутність і характерні риси російської військової агресії та її прояви проти мирного населення окупованого міста Мелітополь незалежної України. Встановлено, що небезпека російсько-української війни полягає у тому, що вона несе екзистенційну загрозу українству, ставить під сумнів демократичний шлях нашої країни до європейської спільноти, руйнуючи «крихкість буття» кожній людині. Виявлено, що ці складні дні для мелітопольців стали випробуванням на витривалість і стійкість, єднання і взаємодопомогу, мудрість і розсудливість всієї багатоетнічної громади міста, яка налічує близько 100-та національностей та етнічних груп, між якими укорінилися глибокі вікові традиції добросусідства та взаємоповаги. В культурній і освітній сфері окупаційна влада міста заборонила як державну мову, так і мови національних спільнот, шляхом примусового переходу шкіл і дитячих садочків на російську мову й російські програми. Однак уже з перших днів мелітопольці об’єднались в добрих справах та підтримці: благодійні фонди, громадські організації, церкви об’єднали свої зусилля, щоб підтримати тих, кому було найважче. Десятки національностей, тисячі людей і одне головне гасло «Мелітополь – Україна», яке скандували під прицілом ворожих автоматів, підтверджуючи, що сила нашої громади в єдності та згуртованості. Стверджується, що ні повномасштабне вторгнення, ні окупація міста не зламали мелітопольців і не знищили особливе почуття міжкультурної єдності і взаємної підтримки. На прикладі тимчасово окупованого міста Мелітополя показано роль громадського спротиву та згуртованості в протидії ідеології «руського міра» та приближенні переможного українського миру.
