Розкриваються основні напрямки державної соціально-економічної політики гетьмана, спрямованої на зростання землеволодіння козацької старшини, яка за часів гетьманування Івана Мазепи стала панівним станом на території Лівобережної України і соціальною опорою гетьмана та православних монастирів. Водночас, варто підкреслити, що значна частина праць вітчизняних дослідників була присвячена суспільно-політичному та культурному розвитку Лівобережної України за часів І. Мазепи, а сама постать гетьмана в дореволюційній та українській радянській історіографії розглядалася з негативного боку як «зрадника та експлуататора народних мас», одного з найбільших феодалів Європи, який відстоював інтереси панівних верств населення Гетьманщини, зміцнюючи їхнє землеволодіння. Разом з тим, з’ясовано, що у працях вітчизняних істориків цих періодів подається багатий фактичний матеріал, який висвітлює основні напрямки державної соціальної політики гетьмана, спрямованої на освоєння нових земель, розвиток сільського господарства, ремесел, промислів, внутрішньої та зовнішньої торгівлі, фінансів, а також заходи гетьманського уряду з захисту населення від свавілля світських і духовних землевласників. Нарешті, зі здобуттям незалежності України, з’являється чимало праць, присвячених постаті та діяльності І. Мазепи, в яких з об’єктивної точки зору також висвітлюється й соціально-економічна політика гетьмана. Крім цього, публікуються праці істориків української діаспори, які були заборонені в Радянському Союзі.The article is devoted to highlighting the activities of Hetman Ivan Mazepa, aimed at the socio-economic development of the Hetmanship, in the works of domestic historians of the 19th – early 21st centuries. The main directions of the state socio-economic policy of the hetman, aimed at increasing the land ownership of the Cossack chieftainship, which during the hetmanship of Ivan Mazepa became the dominant state in the territory of Left Bank Ukraine and the social support of the hetman, and Orthodox monasteries are revealed. At the same time, it is worth emphasizing that a significant part of the works of domestic researchers was devoted to the socio-political and cultural development of Left Bank Ukraine during the time of I. Mazepa, and the very figure of the hetman in pre-revolutionary and Ukrainian Soviet historiography was viewed from the negative side as a «traitor and exploiter of the masses», one of the largest feudal lords in Europe, who defended the interests of the ruling classes of the population of the Hetmanate, strengthening their land ownership. At the same time, it was found that in the works of domestic historians of these periods, rich factual material is presented, which illuminates the main directions of the state social policy of the hetman, aimed at the development of new lands, the development of agriculture, crafts, industries, domestic and foreign trade, finance, as well as measures of the hetman government to protect the population from the arbitrariness of secular and spiritual landowners. Finally, with the gaining of independence of Ukraine, many works dedicated to the figure and activities of I. Mazepa, in which the socio-economic policy of the hetman is also highlighted from an objective point of view.
