One of the most problematic issues in Ukrainian history remains the era of the Ukrainian national revival, which occurred simultaneously with the development of the artificial policy of "Ukrainization" and political repressions against scientists and artists as representatives of the Ukrainian national elite. One of the most interesting personalities of the studied era remains the Ukrainian writer, liturgist, founder of the union of peasant writers "Plough" Serhiy Volodymyrovych Pylypenko. Based on archival materials, first included in scientific circulation and relying on sources of personal origin, the goal was set to investigate the factors of external influence on the formation of Serhiy Pylypenko's ideological and political orientations throughout his life and to find in his activities the features of national communism. It was national communism, as a specific political and ideological trend, that was popular among the literary and artistic environment of the era of the "red renaissance", and Serhiy Pylypenko was one of its key personalities. The purpose of the article is to search for and analyse national-communist features in Serhii Pylypenko's versatile activities in the context of the unfolding of political repressions and destructive processes directed against the Ukrainian intelligentsia in the 1920s and 1930s. Conclusions. A biographical study devoted to Serhiy Pylypenko's efforts to combine the Ukrainian national idea with the principles of communism reveals the most characteristic features of the repressive era of the 1920s and 1930s. Summarizing the scientific material, it was possible to identify national-communist features in the artist's work and prove that he sincerely tried to combine these fundamentally different ideas, based on his own belief in such a possibility. Serhii Pylypenko's efforts to harmonize Ukrainian identity with Soviet communism were not supported by public advocacy of the ideas of self-reliance, instead, most of the material that came out of the activist's pen was written in fulfilment of the party's tasks, with the aim of constructing a new Soviet society. However, the clear communist position did not save the writer from physical destruction against the background of political repression. Biographical research allows to prove the artificiality of the policy of "Ukrainization" as one of the means of exposing "counter-revolutionary elements" for the destruction of the Ukrainian intelligentsia as a potentially threatening layer to the Bolshevik regime.ukСергій Пилипенконаціонал-комунізмукраїнське письменництво«червоний ренесанс»громадська діяльністьбіографіяХарківкраєзнавствоSerhiy Pylypenkonational-communismUkrainian literaturered renaissancepublic activitybiographyKharkivlocal historyНаціонал-комуністичні риси в діяльності С.
