Торо є ключовими фігурами історії американської філософської думки, а поняття «природи» поставало центральним поняттям у їх філософії. Рефлексії щодо природи зустрічаються в історії філософії з часів античності, коли натурфілософи досліджували основні принципи та впорядкованість природи, яка розумілась чимось більшим ніж сукупність живого і неживого. Маніфестуючі основні ідеї американського трансценденталізму, його засновник Р. В. Емерсон розробив еклектичне вчення, яке увібрало в себе елементи німецького ідеалізму, античної філософії, далекосхідної містики тощо. Саме тому їх розуміння природи викликає великий інтерес дослідників різних галузей знання. Їх бачення природи є поширеною темою у екокритизмі та літературознавчих студіях. Їх роль як публічних інтелектуалів у передумовах громадянської війни є поширеною темою у історичних студіях. У політичних студіях їх часто вивчають як класиків політичної думки США. Їх визначальне значення для формування американської культури та ідентитету є загальноприйнятим у академічному світі. Проте, в межах історії філософії трансценденталісти Р. В. Емерсон та Г. Д. Торо привертали набагато менше уваги. У сучасній історії філософії вивчення цих постатей має важливу мету – надати експертний, історико-філософський аналіз їх думки, розкрити їх філософський контекст та надати новий погляд на мислителів, який розкриє філософську, а не лише літературну або політичну складову їх робіт. Тому, дослідження поняття природи Р. В. Емерсона та Г. Д. Торо у українській історії філософії долучається до світового історико-філософського тренду – розгляду трансценденталістів Р. В. Емерсона та Г. Д. Торо у їх філософському вимірі. Метою цієї роботи було розкрити поняття природи в американському трансценденталізмі Р. В. Емерсона та Г. Д. Торо. Для досягнення цієї мети було виконано такі завдання: 1. Розкрити поняття природи Р. В. Емерсона з точки зору його філософської антропології, філософії культури, онтології, філософії суспільства Р. В. Емерсона та розкрити співвідношення понять природи, людини, культури та суспільства у філософії Р. В. Емерсона. 2. Проаналізувати поняття природи у контексті епістемології та філософії культури Г. Д. Торо. 3. Розкрити специфіку розуміння поняття природи у Г. Д. Торо, проаналізувати співвідношення понять природи, культури, та «дикого» у філософії Г. Д. Торо. 4. Визначити роль поняття природи у політичній філософії Р. В. Емерсона та Г. Д. Торо. 5. Розкрити поняття природи трансценденталістів у контексті етики навколишнього середовища. Об’єкт: філософський спадок американських трансценденталістів Р. В. Емерсона та Г. Д. Торо. Предмет: поняття природи у філософському спадку американських трансценденталістів Р. В. Емерсона та Г. Д. Торо. Методологія дисертації спиралась на такі методи: герменевтичний, історичної та раціональної реконструкції, порявняльний аналіз, контекстуалізації, близького читання. Джерельну базу дослідження складають філософські та політичні твори Р. В. Емерсона та Г. Д. Торо, а також їх особисті нотатки та спогади їх сучасників. Вперше було: - Здійснено цілісний огляд поняття природи у політичних творах Р. В. Емерсона та Г. Д. Торо. - Проведено системне дослідження поняття природи з точки зору співпраці філософів Р. В. Емерсона та Г. Д. Торо в історико-філософському дискурсі. - Розкрито зв’язок поняття природи та природи людини у філософії американських трансценденталістів Р. В. Емерсона та Г. Д. Торо з урахуванням сучасних досліджень у галузі расових студій. - Здійснено критичний аналіз тези про відхід від антропоцентризму у етиці навколишнього середовища Г. Д. Торо через аналіз його розуміння поняття природи. Уточнено: - Співвідношення понять природи, людини та культури у філософії американських трансценденталістів Р. В. Емерсона та Г. Д. Торо де і культура, і людина не протиставляються природі, проте включаються в його обсяг. - Вплив специфіки розуміння природи у загальному вжитку США ХІХ ст. на філософське розуміння природи американських трансценденталістів Р. В. Емерсона та Г. Д. Торо. - Ступінь зв’язку між філософією природи та політичною філософією Р. В. Емерсона та Г. Д. Торо. Подальшого розвитку набуло: - Переосмислення унікальності філософії природи Г. Д. Торо та відмінності його розуміння природи від філософії природи Р. В. Емерсона. - Включення трансценденталістів Р. В. Емерсона та Г. Д. Торо у історико-філософський дискурс, відхід від сприйняття мислителів у виключно літературному контексті. - Дослідження взаємозв’язку американського природознавства ХІХ ст. із філософією природи американського трансценденталізму. Теоретичне значення полягає у історико-філософському дослідженні поняття природи Р. В. Емерсона та Г. Д. Торо, що доповнює історію американської філософії та відкриває нові можливості її подальшого розвитку. Практичне значення результатів дозволяє їх використання у широкому спектрі української американістики. У сучасній незалежній Україні дослідження американської культури є достатньо молодим порівняно із тими європейськими країнами, що були менше обмежені дискурсом холодної війни у своїх академічних студіях. Таким чином, дослідження поняття природи у філософії таких ключових фігур американського трансценденталізму як Р. В. Емерсон та Г. Д. Торо дає поштовх як для подальшого дослідження американської філософії, так і для української американістики в цілому. Результати дослідження поняття природи демонструють різноманітність можливих поглядів на співвідношення людини та природи що є також важливими для екологічної етики та рухів захисту навколишнього світу, що відіграє важливу роль у сучасному суспільстві.The philosophers R.W. Emerson and H. D. Thoreau are key figures in the history of American thought. The concept of nature became a central concept in their philosophy. Therefore, their understanding of nature is of great interest to 6 researchers in various fields of knowledge. Their vision of nature is a common theme in ecocriticism and literary studies. Their role as public intellectuals in the run-up to the Civil War is a common topic of historical studies. In political studies, they are often studied as classics of US political thought. Their defining importance in the formation of American culture and identity is widely accepted in the academic world. However, within the history of philosophy, transcendentalists R. W. Emerson and H. D. Thoreau have attracted much less attention. In the modern history of philosophy, the study of these figures has an important goal - to provide an expert, historical-philosophical analysis of their thoughts, to reveal their philosophical context, and to provide a new perspective on thinkers that will reveal the philosophical, and not only the literary or political component of their works. Therefore, the study of the concept of nature by R. W. Emerson and H. D. Thoreau in the Ukrainian history of philosophy joins the world historical and philosophical trend - consideration of the transcendentalists R. W. Emerson and H. D. Thoreau in their philosophical dimension. The purpose of this work was to reveal the concept of nature in the American transcendentalism of R. W. Emerson and H. D. Thoreau. The following tasks were performed to achieve this purpose: 1. To reveal R. W. Emerson’s concept of nature from the perspective of his philosophical anthropology, philosophy of culture, ontology, philosophy of society, and to reveal the relationship between the concepts of nature, man, culture, and society in R. W. Emerson's philosophy. 2. Analyze the concept of nature in the context of Thoreau’s epistemology and philosophy of culture. 3. To reveal the specifics of H. D. Thoreau’s understanding of the concept of nature, to analyze the relationship between the concepts of nature, culture, and “the wild” in H. D. Thoreau’s philosophy. 4. To define the role of the concept of nature in the political philosophy of R. W. Emerson and H. D. Thoreau. 5. To explore the transcendentalists’ concept of nature in the context of environmental ethics. Research subject: the concept of nature in the philosophical works of American transcendentalists R. W. Emerson and H. D. Thoreau. The methodology of the dissertation was based on the following methods: hermeneutics, historical and rational reconstruction, comparative analysis, contextualization, close reading. The source base of the study consists of the philosophical and political works of R. W. Emerson and H. D. Thoreau, as well as their personal notes and memories of their contemporaries. For the first time: - A holistic review of the concept of nature in the political writings of R. W. Emerson and H. D. Thoreau was carried out. - A systematic study of the concept of nature was carried out from the point of view of the cooperation of the philosophers R. W. Emerson and H. D. Thoreau in the historical-philosophical discourse. - The connection between the concepts of nature and human nature in the philosophy of the American transcendentalists R. W. Emerson and H. D. Thoreau is revealed, considering modern research in the field of racial studies. - The thesis about the departure from anthropocentrism in the environmental ethics of H.D. Thoreau is undermined through the analysis of his understanding of the concept of nature. Was clarified: - The relationship between the concepts of nature, human and culture in the philosophy of the American transcendentalists R. W. Emerson and H. D. Thoreau, where both culture and man are not opposed to nature but are included in its scope. - The influence of the peculiar understanding of nature in the general usage of the USA in the 19th century on the philosophical understanding of the nature of the American transcendentalism of R. W. Emerson and H. D. Thoreau was specified. - The degree of connection between the philosophy of nature and the political philosophy of R. W. Emerson and H. D. Thoreau. The following theses were further developed: - Rethinking the uniqueness of H. D. Thoreau’s philosophy of nature and the difference between his understanding of nature and R.W. Emerson’s. - Inclusion of the transcendentalists R. W. Emerson and H. D. Thoreau in the historical-philosophical discourse, a departure from the view on the thinkers in an literary context exclusively. - Study of the interrelationship of American natural science of the 19th century with the philosophy of nature of American transcendentalism. The theoretical significance lies in the historical-philosophical study of the concept of nature by R. W. Emerson and H. D. Thoreau, which complements the history of American philosophy and opens up new possibilities for its further development. The practical significance of the results allows their use in a wide range of Ukrainian American studies. In today’s independent Ukraine, the study of American culture is quite young compared to those European countries that were less constrained by the discourse of the Cold War in their academic studies. Thus, the study of the concept of nature in the philosophy of such key figures of American transcendentalism as R. W. Emerson and H. D. Thoreau provides an impetus both for further research of American philosophy and for Ukrainian American studies as a whole.
