In the conditions of the Russian-Ukrainian war, the topic of patriotism education is not just an urgent need of Ukrainian society but also an important strategic goal of Ukraine. Brief answers are given to the raised key questions about the essence of the concept of patriotism: Is patriotism an inborn or acquired trait through upbringing? Does patriotism exist without ethnic identity? Is there a relationship between patriotism and altruism? What is common between patriotism and nationalism? Are nationalism and internationalism, patriotism and cosmopolitanism compatible? Is it possible to "re-educate" or somehow influence the phenomenon of mankurtism (modern janissarism) acquired through violence? What is the ratio between patriotism and religion, particularly Christianity? What are the ways to reassess the imposed stereotypical beliefs and feelings that have developed as a result of centuries of imperial “brainwashing”? Is it possible, and how, to consolidate the mixed Ukrainian society? Purpose is a philosophical and theoretical understanding of patriotism as a study of the self-preservation of future generations of the Ukrainian people and substantiation of the importance of its Ukrainian studies in the conditions of the Russian-Ukrainian war. Conclusions. Patriotism depends equally on both natural and educational factors, which harmoniously combine the emotional and rational aspects of the human soul. Emphasis is placed on the active aspect of patriotism, during which human feelings (love for one's country) are transformed into specific doings.
