The factors which influenced forming of the Ukrainian identity in the period of statelessness are determined. The influence of the processes of migration and assimilation on changing of ethno-linguistic structure of Ukrainian population is outlined. The consequences of inertial influence of ethno-linguistic processes in the period of statelessness in modern Ukraine are founded out. The importance of Ukrainian Studies in forming of the Ukrainian identity and consolidation of Ukrainian people is determined.
