Визначено основних представників шотландського реалізму: Томас Рід, Дугалд Стюарт, Вільям Гамільтон, а також здійснено аналіз основних рис даної філософської течії. На основі аналізу робіт американських філософів, таких як Леві Гедж, Френсіс Вейленд, Томас Когсвелл Уфам, Марк Гопкінс, Френсіс Боуен та ін. даного періоду американської історії прослідковується інтерес до європейської філософії, згадування та цитування зазначених філософів. Зважаючи на даний огляд, можна зробити висновки про наявність непоодиноких звернень до філософії шотландського реалізму, які у своїй сукупності свідчать про окремий період прояву філософії "здорового глузду" в американському інтелектуальному середовищі.The article analyzes the influence of European philosophy, especially Scottish realism, or the philosophy of "common-sense" on the development of American philosophy of the late 18th – early 19th century. The main representatives of Scottish realism, such as Thomas Reid, Dugald Stewart, and William Hamilton are determined; the main features of this philosophical trend are analyzed. Special influence on the American philosophy of "common-sense" was provided by the work of British empiricist J. Locke, despite some disagreements. Based on the analysis of the works of American philosophers such as Levi Hedge, Francis Wayland, Thomas Cogswell Upham, Mark Hopkins, Francis Bowen and other philosophers of this period of American history, interest in European philosophy is traced, reference and citation of these philosophers are analyzed. It is possible to draw conclusions about the presence of repeated appeals to the philosophy of Scottish realism, which testify to the period of activity of the philosophy of "common sense" among American intellectuals. The article concludes that there are concrete references to the philosophy of Scottish realism. Taken together, these facts indicate a unique period of the philosophy of "common sense" in the history of early American philosophy. A characteristic feature of all these researchers was the appeal to the texts of Scottish realists and representatives of British empiricism. The search for reliable evident knowledge did not accept skepticism and subject-object problems, but focused attention on the content of consciousness as an object of scientific knowledge. The era of Scottish realism influenced the development of both rational philosophy and the irrational philosophy of American transcendentalism. The philosophy of "common-sense", albeit a logical continuation of the American Enlightenment, received a special place in the history of philosophical thought. At the same time, the American philosophers used argumentation on ethics and religious sciences.
