The areas with migration decrease accompanied by natural population decrease are characterized by depopulation leading to growing of the non-working population. This results in the demographic decline of settlements. Studying this process on the level of administrative-territorial units such as Chernihiv region has certain peculiarities. The goal of the investigation is to disclose modern tendencies in migration and their impact on the structure of the settlement system in Chernihiv region. The tasks of the investigation are to analyze the mechanic movement of the population and to define its territorial peculiarities as for the types of settlements variety in Chernihiv region; to study the impact of the mechanic and natural population movement on the territorial structure of the region population. Analysis, synthesis, generalization, and comparative-geographic method were applied to fulfill the tasks and achieve the goal. This allowed disclosing spatial peculiarities in the migration activity in Chernihiv region. The article investigates time changes in migration priorities connected with the decrease of the inner-regional migration in the migration movement structure. Types of migration structure, related to the settlement types, were another subject of analysis. The study allowed splitting the total population into gender and age migration groups and made possible to describe the influence of the dynamic components of the population movement on the regional settlement potential.Міграція має безпосередній вплив на демографічні процеси, які визначають малюнок розселення. Території, де міграційний відтік супроводжується природним скороченням населення, характеризуються процесами депопуляції, що обумовлює збільшення частки населення старше працездатного віку; як наслідок – зменшується людність поселень. Специфічні особливості має вивчення цього процесу на рівні адміністративно-територіальних утворень, одним з яких є Чернігівська область. Метою дослідження є аналіз сучасних тенденцій міграційного руху населення та його вплив на структуру поселенської мережі Чернігівської області. Задачі дослідження: проаналізувати механічний рух населення та виявити його територіальні відмінності у розрізі різних типів поселень Чернігівської області; розглянути вплив механічного та природного руху населення на територіальну структуру розселення регіону. Для вирішення поставлених завдань застосовувалися такі методи: порівняльно-географічний, аналізу та синтезу, узагальнення. Виявлено територіальні відмінності міграційної активності населення Чернігівської області. Досліджено зміни міграційних пріоритетів у часі, які супроводжуються зменшенням внутрішньорегіональних міграцій у структурі міграційних переміщень. Проаналізовано видову структуру міграцій за типами поселень. Визначено міграційно-мобільні категорії населення за статтю та віком.
