A vivid example of this phenomenon can be found in the field of bibliography and publishing. Originating in the 14th century as a printing branch, it grew into a number of interrelated and complementary professional disciplines in the 21st century, having attracted the attention of not only specialists in the field, but also philologists. Therefore, we have performed our research into these studies, setting the goal to trace gradual expansion of the publishing sphere, its coverage in the scholars’ works, to show their achievements, the expansion and narrowing of some research approaches, the appearance of new terms, the change of oncepts and their replacement by new names. This is closely related to methodology, i.e. the study regulating thinking intended to create a theory of science, the doctrine of the scientific method of knowledge and transformation of the world. According to the rules of scholarly studies, the research into precedent papers must be covered, but a detailed description precisely from the standpoint of the novelty and the specificity of the terminological apparatus of each sub-field has not been outlined by the scholars yet. This is precisely what we consider to be the specificity and novelty of the proposed publication. It may be stated that bibliography, publishing, publishing business, journalism, editing, IT technologies, etc. are closely interconnected, they interact and complement each other.На сучасному етапі розвитку наук спостерігаємо синкретизм наукових галузей, їхню інтерференцію, переплетення, перехрещення різних терміносистем і утворення нових напрямів. Яскраву ілюстрацію такого явища знаходимо у сфері книгознавства та видавничої діяльності. Після зародження в XIV столітті як друкарської галузі у ХХІ столітті вона розподілилася на низку взаємопов’язаних і взаємодоповнюваних фахових дисциплін, які привертали увагу не лише вузьких фахівців, а й філологів. Тому в розвідці поставили за мету простежити крок за кроком розширення видавничої сфери, її висвітлення у працях науковців, показати їхні здобутки та напрацювання, розширення та звуження деяких дослідницьких підходів, появу нових термінів, зміну понять і заміну їх новими назвами. Відповідний ракурс дослідження пов’язаний із методологією – ученням про правила мислення під час створення теорії науки, ученням про науковий метод пізнання та перетворення світу. Згідно із правилами побудови наукових праць, екскурс у дослідження попередників обов’язково має бути в кожній із них. Проте детальний опис саме з позицій новизни кожної такої праці та специфіка термінологічного апарату окремої підгалузі не були ще в полі зору вчених. Саме в цьому вбачаємо наукову новизну запропонованої публікації.
