Досліджуються маловідомі риси його психологічного портрету, окреслюються морально-етичні домінанти, що актуалізувалися у його державно-громадській діяльності та повсякденному житті. Аналізується ставлення М.В. Підгорного до України, до українського духовно-інтелектуального феномену, проявлене у різних соціально-буттєвих та історичних ситуаціях. Проаналізовано оцінки, які надавалися особистості М.В.Підгорного сучасниками. Окремо вивчаються досі маловідомі вчинки й дії М.В.Підгорного під час Празької весни 1968 року, його опір тихій сталінізації ранньобрежнєвських часів.The article is devoted to an outstanding Ukrainian statesman and political leader M.V. Pidhornyi, whose figure hasn’t been sufficiently studied in the newest social and humanist discourse. The article presents the research into the phenomenon of this personality in different conceptual dimensions. From the philosophical and Ukrainian studies aspects, special attention is paid to the values, conceptual and existential priorities of M.V. Pidhornyi. Less known traits and even unknown features of his psychological portrait were studied, his moral and ethical dominants that actualized in his state-civic activity and everyday life were outlined. Our analysis focuses on M.V. Pidhornyi attitude to Ukraine, Ukrainian spiritual and intellectual phenomenon, revealed in various social-existential and historical situations. In particular, attention is focused on the study of the less known pages of Mykola Pidhornyi activity, related to his aspiration to return back to Ukraine, to its millennia-old capital Kyiv, even after obtaining the highest positions in Moscow authority hierarchy of the Communist Party of the USSR. Unwillingness to leave Ukraine and Kyiv, its sacral capital, was also shown by the President of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic Borys Paton and a years-long leader of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic Volodymyr Shcherbytskyi, when they reported to Moscow, already in the Brezhniev era, about their own refusal to hold there the highest posts of the President of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR and the Head of the Council of Ministers of the USSR. The present study also deals with the transcendental phenomenon of involvement of the Ukrainian statesmen and scientific devotees of Ukrainianness in Ukraine, and Ukraine-centrism as it is. Evidence as to the phenomenon of Mykola Pidhornyi personality, presented in the diary notes of Petro Shelest, wasn’t actualized to the full extent in a present-day philosophical Ukrainian studies. The matter is that Mykola Pidhornyi deliberately supported the desire to return to Ukraine after unfair dismissal of the first Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine Oleksii Kyrychenko, who was one of the authors of little-known nowadays after-Stalin Ukrainization. Mykola Pidhornyi and Petro Shelest were unanimous in Christocentric understanding the desire of the former leader of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine to return to the homeland. Evaluations of M.V. Pidhornyi personality, made by his contemporaries, were also analyzed. In particular, the memoirs of Nataliya Mykolaivna, the daughter of M.V. Pidhornyi, about personal outlook and existential priorities of her father are presented in the article. This presents a large-scale receptive field for further research. Special analysis is carried out on still unknown actions and deeds of M.V. Pidhornyi during the Prague Spring in 1968, his opposition to quiet Stalinization of the early Brezhniev times.
