This study explores the repercussions of heavy metal contamination, particularly focusing on copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), and cadmium (Cd), on forest litter decomposition dynamics. By disturbing microbial communities engaged in leaf litter degradation, these toxic elements impede the decomposition process, thereby jeopardizing ecosystem functionality. The research was conducted in the Holosiivskyi National Nature Park, located in Kyiv, amidst high vehicular traffic. Sampling revealed varying concentrations of heavy metals in forest litter, highlighting the seasonal variability in contamination levels. Utilizing human hepatocyte-derived cell line HepG2 for biotesting, the study delineates the cytotoxic effects of forest floor ash, emphasizing the significance of heavy metal content.ukТези конференції
