The need for systematic organization, preservation and digitization of the archival heritage of the Research Institute of Ukrainian Studies, which has been conducting fundamental and applied research for almost 35 years, has been developing for decades. The large volume of published scientific articles, monographs, and two scientific journals on Ukrainian studies does not allow us to fully demonstrate the achievements in the field of Ukrainian studies which is a complex science that reflects almost all branches of the humanitarian direction. Outside the boundaries of “open science” manuscripts, epistolaries, field diaries and expedition reports of complex Ukrainian studies expeditions, full texts of dissertations, including unprotected ones, drafts of curricula on Ukrainian studies, and other materials remain unpublished. In particular, the personal archives of leading Ukrainian scholars associated with the activities of the Institute, as well as those scholars who, working according to their scientific preferences, formed the basis of modern Ukrainian studies, are of great value. Ukraine has always been a land that has raised talented people for the world: statesmen, artists, writers, scientists. One of such personalities was the archaeologist and poet Borys Mozolevskyi, whose 90th birthday was celebrated on February 4, 2026. The purpose of the article is to reflect, through the biography of the extraordinary personality B. M. Mozolevskyi, those moments of the history of Ukraine in the 80s of the last century, which are now customary to recall in a hurry, without due respect for the people who created it. Conclusions. Thanks to the almost heroic efforts of researchers from the generation of “romantic archaeology”, such as Borys Mozolevskyi, we have information about the excavated and published results of research on the large mounds of Steppe Scythia: Melitopol Kurgan, Gaimanova Mohyla, Tovsta Mohyla, Soboleva Mohyla, Babinova Mohyla and other large steppe mounds. Archives of small institutions organized on a scientific basis provide an opportunity to objectively and impartially study the history of Ukraine. Digitization of documents facilitates the problem of where to store the personal funds of researchers, as was demonstrated in this article. Biobibliographic plots from the lives of prominent Ukrainians show how reality is reflected through the fates of people. B. Mozolevskyi and his team developed a unique methodology for field research of both the large mounds mentioned above and their surroundings – mound fields: Gaimanove kurganne pole, Chortomlytske field, etc. The life of Boris Mykolayovych Mozolevskyi reflected the complex and almost heroic path of a scientist and poet in the realities of the 20th century. His poetry revealed not only love for Ukraine, for its boundless free steppes, but also a dream of a happy future for the people living here.Актуальність. Потреба у системному впорядкуванні, збереженні та оцифруванні архівної спадщини Науково-дослідного інституту українознавства, що майже 35 років здійснював фундаментальні та прикладні дослідження, назрівала десятиріччями. Великий обсяг надрукованих наукових статей, монографій, двох наукових журналів з українознавства не дає можливості у повному обсязі показати напрацювання у царині українознавства – комплексної науки, що відображає майже усі галузі гуманітарного напряму. За межами «відкритої науки» залишаються неопубліковані рукописи, епістолярії, польові щоденники та експедиційні звіти комплексних українознавчих експедицій, повні тексти дисертацій, у тому числі незахищених, чернеток навчальних програм з українознавства та інших матеріалів. Зокрема, велику цінність становлять особові архіви провідних українознавців, пов’язаних із діяльністю Інституту, а також тих науковців, які, працюючи за своїми науковими уподобаннями, формували основу сучасного українознавства. Україна завжди була землею, що виховувала для світу талановитих людей: державних діячів, митців, літераторів, науковців. Однією з таких особистостей був археолог і поет Борис Миколайович Мозолевський, 90-річчя від дня народження якого відзначалося 4 лютого 2026 р. Мета статті – відобразити через біографію непересічної особистості Б. М. Мозолевського ті моменти історії України 80-х років минулого століття, яку зараз прийнято згадувати поспіхом, без належної поваги до людей, які її створювали. Висновки. Дякуючи майже героїчним зусиллям дослідників з покоління «романтичної археології», таким як Борис Миколайович Мозолевський, ми маємо інформацію про розкопані та введені у науковий обіг результати досліджень великих курганів Степової Скіфії: Мелітопольський курган, Гайманову Могилу, Товсту Могилу, Соболєву Могилу, Бабину Могилу та інші великі степові кургани. Організовані на науковій основі архіви невеликих інституцій дають можливість об’єктивно і неупереджено вивчати історію України. Цифровізація документів полегшує проблему місця зберігання особових фондів дослідників, що було засвідчено у цій статті. Біобібліографічні сюжети з життя видатних українців показують, як через долі людей відображається дійсність. Б. Мозолевським та його колективом напрацьована унікальна методика польових досліджень як великих курганів, що згадувалися вище, так і їхнього оточення – курганних полів: Гайманове курганне поле, поле Чортомлицьке та ін. Життя Бориса Миколайовича Мозолевського відобразило складний і майже героїчний шлях науковця і поета у реаліях ХХ століття.
