Holovko's contribution to the study of the western vector of Roman Mstyslavovich's foreign policy. A well-known scientist, Doctor of Historical Sciences, and Academician of the Academy of Sciences of Higher Education of Ukraine, O. Holovko professionally studies the peculiarities of Prince Roman's foreign policy. In his studies, the scholar has researched the western vector of the foreign policy of Prince Roman Mstyslavovych of Galicia-Volhynia on a high level. Academician O. Holovko's research on the activities of Prince Roman is part of our plan to develop the topic of the role of the Romanovych dynasty in the history of state formation in Ukraine.The purpose is to analyse, based on sources and literature, O. Holovko's scientific achievements in studying the western vector of the foreign policy of Prince Roman of Galicia-VolhyniaConclusions. The scientific problem we have considered in O. Holovko's study of the western vector of the foreign policy of Prince Roman of Galicia-Volhynia gives us reason to draw the following conclusions: the scholar's analysis of such problematic issues as determining the origin of Grand Duchess Romanova, the reality of the arrival of the embassy of Pope Innocent III to Roman Mstyslavovych, and the significance of the prince's military campaign to the West in 1205 is comprehensive. O. Holovko reached the correct conclusions on two of these important, problematic issues. We should also note the scholar's mistakes, in particular regarding the dating of Prince Roman's first military campaign against the Polovtsi and the determination of the causes and circumstances of Prince Roman Mstyslavovych's military campaign to the West in 1205.Актуальність теми визначена тим, що в історіографії немає ґрунтовного дослідження внеску О. Головка у вивчення західного вектора зовнішньої політики Романа Мстиславовича. Відомий науковець, доктор історичних наук, академік АН вищої школи України О. Головко професійно вивчає особливості перебігу зовнішньої політики князя Романа. У своїх студіях вчений на високому рівні дослідив західний вектор зовнішньої політики галицько-волинського князя Романа Мстиславовича. Дослідження академіком  О. Головком діяльності князя Романа є складовою нашого плану розвитку теми ролі династії Романовичів в історії державотворення України. Мета – аналіз на основі джерел і літератури наукових досягнень О. Головка у питанні вивчення західного вектора зовнішньої політики галицько-волинського князя Романа. Висновки. Розглянута нами наукова проблема дослідження О. Головком західного вектора зовнішньої політики галицько-волинського князя Романа дає підстави зробити наступні висновки: аналіз вченим таких проблемних питань, як визначення походження великої княгині Романової, реальність приїзду посольства Папи Римського Інокентія ІІІ до Романа Мстиславовича, значення військового походу князя на Захід 1205 р., є ґрунтовним. О. Головко зробив правильні висновки до двох із цих важливих проблемних питань.
