However, with the transition to postmodern discourse, the effectiveness of such communication deteriorates, and the meanings and messages of the parties are not always perceived correctly. That is why the study of symbols becomes especially relevant — as the clearest and fastest form of transmission of the message without losing its essence.The purpose of this article is to study the peculiarities of the use of symbols to establish political communication between the government and civil society and further legitimize public authority.The main methods used for this study are: political science — analysis of specialized scientific sources allowed to identify features of the use of symbols in the process of political communication to legitimize public power, comparative — allowed to compare different approaches to understanding the concepts of symbol, communication and legitimacy. features, system approach — allowed to consider communication as a complex, complex and multifaceted process with the corresponding internal and external features of functioning, historical — the study of the transformation of understanding the concept of legitimacy of power.This article reveals the importance of symbols in the political communication of the postmodern era, their use by politicians and the overall impact on the legitimacy of politicians.In the course of the research we came to the conclusion that there is an interdependence between effective communication between the government and civil society and a high level of legitimation of power in the postmodern era.Постійний діалог влади з громадянським суспільством є необхідним для підтримання рівня її легітимності. Але, за умов переходу до постмодерністського дискурсу ефективність такої комунікації погіршується, а сенси та повідомлення сторонами сприймаються не завжди коректно. Саме тому, особливої актуальності набуває дослідження символів — як найбільш чіткої та швидкої форми передачі повідомлення без втрати його сутності.Метою даної статті є дослідження особливостей використання символів для налагодження політичній комунікації між владою та громадянським суспільством та подальшої легітимації публічної влади.Основними методами, які використовувались для проведення даного дослідження є: політологічний — аналіз спеціалізованих наукових джерел дозволив виокремити особливості використання символів в процесі політичної комунікації для легітимації публічної влади, компаративний — дозволив порівняти різні підходи до розуміння понять символу, комунікації та легітимності влади та визначити їх основні особливості, системний підхід — дозволив розглянути комунікацію як складний, комплексний та багатогранний процес з відповідними внутрішніми та зовнішніми особливостями функціонування, історичний — дослідження трансформації розуміння поняття легітимності влади.В даній статті розкрито значення символів в політичній комунікації доби постмодерну, їх застосування політичними діячами та загальний вплив на легітимацію політиків.
