The heritage of world history is the Peasant Insurgent Movement of 1917–1921, associated with the name of Nestor Makhno. The anarchist orientation of the movement as a “third force”, which did not recognize either the dictatorship of the proletariat or Ukrainian statehood, led to a general misunderstanding of its essence. After the defeat of the Insurgent Army by the Bolsheviks and the flight of its leader abroad, the Soviet authorities made efforts to distort and falsify historical reality, preparing a trial in absentia against N. Makhno. After the collapse of the USSR, numerous publications about the Makhnovshchyna appeared, the authors of which tried to restore historical justice. Under these conditions, the role of the source base is growing, since original documents of that era are scarce. The “Paris archive” of N.I. Makhno, transferred by ukrainian diplomats to Ukraine, will help eliminate this defect.The purpose of the article is to highlight the fate of Nestor Makhno's “Paris archive” in Ukraine: the circumstances of its transfer, storage and publication.Conclusions. The detective story of the search for the specified documents by the historical community is due to the fact that the previous agreements on the storage location of the archival collection at the Research Institute of Ukrainian Studies of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine were violated due to political and organizational circumstances. The premature publication in the journal "Ukrainian Studies" about the transfer of the archive to the Institute caused concern among public activists about the fate of N. Makhno's documents. And while they were stored in France, in Ukraine emotional accusations were heard against the leadership of the Research Institute of Ukrainian Studies of "theft" and "destruction" of historical documents. They did not stop even after 2018, when N. Makhno's "Paris archive" actually got to Ukraine. Currently, it is stored in the M. Maksymovych Scientific Library of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in its entirety and in the same state of preservation as at the time of transfer. All that remains is to fulfill the last condition of the archive's keepers – to publish it.Актуальність. Надбанням всесвітньої історії є селянський повстанський рух 1917–1921 років, пов’язаний з ім’ям Нестора Махна. Анархістська спрямованість руху як «третьої сили», що не визнавала ані диктатури пролетаріату, ані Української державності, зумовила нерозуміння широким загалом його суті. Після розгрому Повстанської армії більшовиками і втечі її лідера за кордон радянська влада доклала зусиль для викривлення та фальсифікації історичної реальності, готовлячи заочний суд над Н. Махном. Після розпаду СРСР з’явилися численні публікації про махновщину, автори яких намагалися відновити історичну справедливість. За цих умов зростає роль джерельної бази, оскільки оригінальних документів тієї доби залишилось не так багато. Ліквідувати цей брак допоможе «паризький архів» Н. Махна, переданий українськими дипломатами до України. Метою статті є висвітлення долі «паризького архіву» Нестора Махна в Україні: обставин передачі, зберігання та оприлюднення. Висновки. Детективна історія з пошуком вказаних документів історичною громадськістю зумовлена тим, що попередні домовленості про місце зберігання архівної колекції в Науково-дослідному інституті українознавства МОН України були порушені через обставини політичного й організаційного характеру. Передчасна публікація в журналі «Українознавство» про передачу архіву до Інституту викликала занепокоєння громадських активістів долею документів Н. Махна. І поки вони зберігалися у Франції, в Україні лунали емоційні звинувачення на адресу керівництва Науково-дослідного інституту українознавства в «розкраданні», «знищенні» історичних документів. Вони не припинилися навіть після 2018 року, коли «паризький архів» Н. Махна дійсно потрапив до України. Наразі він зберігається в Науковій бібліотеці імені М. Максимовича Київського національного університету імені Тараса Шевченка в повному обсязі та в такому самому стані збереженості, як на момент передачі.
