Russia's military invasion of Ukraine became an unprecedented test for Ukrainian statehood and the nation; during the period of the full-scale war, significant qualitative changes were recorded in Ukrainian society, in particular regarding national self-identification, revaluation of Ukraine's colonial past, and historical memory. An extremely important stage of the formation of a new political nation is taking place, united around the struggle for the independence of Ukraine and common values: the desire for democracy, justice, the rule of law, and the European future of Ukraine. The Ukrainian political nation is a complex and dynamic phenomenon that requires constant research and analysis. The study and research of the peculiarities of the functioning of Ukrainian society in the conditions of war is not only relevant but also extremely important for understanding the processes taking place in the country, analyzing the main challenges and threats that society faces on the path of transformations, and developing effective strategies for overcoming the consequences of war. The purpose of the article is to analyze modern Ukrainian society in the realities of a full-scale war, challenges, and threats on the way to the formation and functioning of the Ukrainian political nation. Conclusions. The realities of the Russian-Ukrainian war led to important social and political changes – from the transformation of the "multi-identity" Ukrainian nation to the construction of a consolidated pro-Ukrainian collective identity. The war factor became an important stage in the construction of a stable national Ukrainian identity and the formation of a stable political nation. Unlike the previous stages, the full-scale war changed the guidelines of citizens' self-identification – people identify themselves as Ukrainians regardless of ethnic origin, regional differences, and language preferences. An important aspect was the weakening of other types of national-citizen identity – regional, local, and mass separation and rejection from pro-Russian and post-Soviet identity. Forming a united political nation is a long and complex process that requires unity, cooperation, and readiness for change from all Ukrainians. At the current stage of the construction of a political nation in the conditions of a full-scale war, Ukrainian society is faced with a number of external and internal challenges and threats: the duration of military operations and the lack of advantages on the battlefield, dependence on external military and economic aid, significant economic and demographic losses of Ukraine, and the aggravation of contradictions and gradual decrease in the level of social cohesion.ukукраїнська політична націяукраїнська ідентичністьтрансформаціясуспільстворосійсько-українська війнаUkrainian political nationUkrainian identitytransformationsocietyRussian-Ukrainian warВиклики і загрози на шляху формування та функціонування української політичної нації в умовах повномасштабної війниChallenges and Threats on the Way Towards Forming and Functioning Ukrainian Political Nation in the Conditions of Full-Scale WarСтаття
