Проте залишаються недостатньо висвітленими питання щодопрактики структурування статей та, зокрема, вступу у високорейтингових англомовних світових виданнях.Спираючись на аналіз англомовних статей з психології та соціології, ми розглядаємо вступ як важливускладову, яка має непересічне значення як для автора, так і для читача. Результати дослідження визначаютьнеодмінні та факультативні композиційні фрагменти вступу й надають різноманітні способи йогоструктурування, що допомогає реалізувати авторські наміри, зорієнтувати читача, вмотивувати його доподальшого читання.English is an international language of scientific communication. Though, in Ukraine, most journal articlesappear in Ukrainian, the requirement is to accomplish them with abstracts in the English language. Besides, manyscientists who want to share their findings with their colleagues abroad attempt to write their articles in English.These needs gave rise to the appearance of new subjects in the higher school curriculum. So, many higher educationalinstitutions introduced English Academic Writing into the teaching process, which, in its turn, motivated the interestof the Ukrainian researchers to the problem of forming academic writing competencies. Though, the issue ofstructuring academic articles which appear in the high rated journals has not received enough attention. Theintroduction is an unavoidable structural part of any academic paper, characterised by its informativeness,multifunctionality, and, as a result, by several section parts. Each sentence of the introduction performs its specificrole and influences the body of the paper. Based on the analysis of sociology and psychology journal articles, thepaper analyses structural peculiarities of introductions with special attention put on the function of each sectionwithin it.
