The relevance of the research is determined by the need for a comprehensive and multi-faceted study of contemporary Ukrainian drama in its narrative embodiment, thanks to which the connection of the artistic text with the emotions, values, personal projections of the recipient is established, and the self­interpretation and identification of the consumer of the artistic product is formed. The purpose of the study is to observe the specifics of the implementation of narrative categories in the texts of new playwrights, to consider the dramaturgical event, temporality and intentionality in connection with theatrical media, to understand the historical, biographical and gender themes of contemporary Ukrainian drama in a narrative perspective. Methods. The work used general scientific methods of observation, analysis, synthesis, selection and systematization of material. In addition, comparative-historical, comparative-typological, intertextual, mythocritical, descriptive methods regarding the subject of the article. Results. The results of the study reveal the role of historical narrative and its functions in contemporary culture, outline productive figurative-thematic models in which the historical narrative of drama is implemented, and reveal interesting and highly artistic textual techniques for the development of the narrative. Conclusions. The study proves that plays united by a historical narrative represent a national-centric model of thinking, perform a compensatory function in understanding the traumatic experience of society, contribute to the reconstruction of national memory, ensure the search and restoration of different levels of identity, in the context of the current decolonization discourse.Вступ. У статті розглядається історичний наратив як смислотвірна основа сучасної української драматургії, що реалізується у відповідних категоріях оповідності та функціонує як активний консолідаційний чинник сучасної культури. Актуальність виконаного дослідження визначається потребою комплексного й різноаспектного дослідження сучасної української драматургії в її наративному втіленні, завдяки якому здійснюється зв'язок художнього тексту з емоціями, цінностями, особистісними проекціями реципієнта, формується самоінтерпретація та ідентифікація споживача художнього продукту. Метою дослідження є спостереження специфіки реалізації наративних категорій в текстах сучасних драматургів, розгляд драматургійної подієвісті, часовісті та інтенційності у зв'язку з театральними медіа, осмислення історичної, біографічної та гендерної тематики сучасної української драматургії у наративній перспективі. Методи. У роботі використано загальнонаукові метоДи спостереження, аналізу, синтезу, Добору та систематизації матеріалу. Крім того, було застосовано порівняльно-історичний, порівняльно-типологічний, інтертекстуальний, міфокритичний, описовий метоДи щоДо преДмету статті. Результати. Результати ДосліДження виявляють роль історичного наративу та його функції в сучасній культурі, окреслюють проДуктивні образно-тематичні моДелі, в яких реалізується історичний наратив Драматургії, та виявляють цікаві й високохуДожні текстуальні прийоми розгортання наративу. Висновки.
