An important phenomenon of that period within the framework of Polish romantic literature was the «Ukrainian school», a bright, unique part of Polish society that lived in Ukraine, which had a powerful influence on the progress of all Polish literature in the first half of the 19th century. It was established that one of the most striking figures of the «Ukrainian school» of Polish literature of the Romantic era was Tomasz Padura - a talented poet, lyricist who made an invaluable and at the same time invalued contribution to both Polish and Ukrainian culture, literature and music who drew inspiration from folklore and historical Cossack Dumas of Podillia, Volyn and Kyiv region and whose public activity caused polar positive or negative reactions. The purpose of the proposed research is an attempt to study the artistic evolution of the Ukrainian theme in the poetic work of T. Padura. The tasks of the work are determined by an attempt to determine the reasons for the strengthening of the moods of tragedy and pessimism in the process of the artistic evolution of T. Padura’s poetic work. The article analyzes the ideological and artistic worldview evidenced in the poems of T. Padura, his idealization of the heroic historical past of Ukraine, his utopian-romantic national-patriotic beliefs and hopes, features of T. Padura’s Ukrainophilism and T. Padura himself. Therefore, notes of tragedy and pessimism intensify in his poetry, especially after the defeat of the uprising of 1830–1831, which gradually caused an almost complete loss of interest on the part of T. Padura in public affairs. He saw a solution to the biggest problem of our time - the weakening of the Russian Empire and their conquering aspirations in the future Polish-Ukrainian union. Nevertheless, the poet’s mission as Poland’s envoy to the Ukrainian people ended with the defeat of the November Uprising, and this defeat, in turn, dispelled his illusions about a quick release.У запропонованій статті зазначено, що доба польсько- го романтизму з точки зору пошуків та напрямків діяльності творчих угруповань – період яскравий і барвистий, багатовимірний і неоднорідний. Важливим явищем того періоду в рамках польської романтичної літератури стала «українська школа», яка мала потужний вплив на поступ всієї польської літератури першої половини ХІХ ст. Констатовано, що однією з найбільш яскравих постатей «української школи» польської літератури доби романтизму був Томаш Падура – талановитий поет, лірник, який зробив безцінний та одночасно неоціненний внесок як у польську, так і в українську культуру, літературу та музику і, черпаючи натхнення із фольклору та історичних козацьких дум Поділля, Волині та Київщини. Метою запропонованої розвідки є спроба дослідження художньої ево- люції української тематики в поетичній творчості Т. Падури. Завдання роботи визначені спробою обумовити причини посилення настроїв трагізму та песимізму в процесі художньої еволюції поетичної творчості Т. Падури. У статті проаналізовано ідейно-художній світогляд,засвідчений в поезіях Т. Падури, його ідеалізація героїчного історичного минулого України, його утопічно-романтичні національно-патріотичні переконання та сподівання У статті зазначається, що ілюзорність власних світоглядно-політичних поглядів та патріотичних сподівань з часм почав усвідомлювати й сам Т. Падура. Відтак, у його поезії посилюються нотки трагізму і песимізму, особливо після поразки повстання 1830–1831 років, яка поступово зумовила майже повну втрату інтересу з боку Т.
