Owning this type of communicative activity, a person understands everything he reads, and responds adequately to what he has read, converting his thoughts in response. Reading any text in a foreign language and answering questions about the text or expressing their opinion about the read, the student learns the skills of monologue speech. In this article, the author considers the importance of extensive reading in the study and teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language or any other foreign language, presents approaches to teaching reading that can be used in reading and parsing any text, introduces activities to be used in an extensive reading program, and analyzes the reading practices in the students of the 2nd year of E/LE at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. The benefits of extensive reading include gains in reading and writing competence, growth of vocabulary, and increases in self-respect and motivation of students. Reading books can be a good way to acquire new vocabulary, see grammar in action and develop understanding of a language. It is important that the books are interesting to students and at a level appropriate to their reading ability.У даній статті розглядається використання методу екстенсивного читання як перспективного і сучасного способу вивчення іспанської мови у вищих навчальних закладах. Зауважено, що екстенсивне читання є інтерактивним, конструктивним і активним процесом, у якому активізуються різні мовні рівні (фонологічний, синтаксичний і семантичний). При екстенсивному читанні студенти можуть працювати з текстами індивідуально і практично без сторонньої допомоги. Автором з’ясовано, що екстенсивне читання має багато переваг, серед яких покращення навичок читання і письма, збільшення словникового запасу, а також підвищення самооцінки і мотивації студентів. Запропоновано при викладанні іспанської мови використовувати аутентичні твори іспаномовних письменників, які відповідають інтересам студентів та їхньому рівню володіння іноземною мовою.En este artículo, el autor considera la importancia de la lectura extensiva en el estudio y la enseñanza del español como lengua extranjera o de cualquier otra lengua extranjera, presenta enfoques para la enseñanza de la lectura que se pueden utilizar para leer y analizar cualquier texto, presenta actividades para ser utilizadas en un programa de lectura extensiva y analiza las prácticas lectoras en los estudiantes del 2º curso de E/LE en la Universidad Nacional de Kyiv Tarás Shevchenko. Los beneficios de la lectura extensiva incluyen el desarrollo de las habilidades de lectura y escritura, aumento del vocabulario, autoestima y motivación de los estudiantes. Leer libros puede ser una buena manera de adquirir vocabulario nuevo, ver la gramática en acción y desarrollar la comprensión de un idioma.
