With the help of it, the mythologised consciousness forms our attitude towards the environment. Moreover, the research in this area proves that the binary principle of perception is characteristic not only of ancient people but also of modern men. Folklore texts objectify the principle of binary opposition to the fullest. Over the centuries, they preserved the dual basis of evaluation. Today, fairy tale and fantasy genres shape the trends in children’s and adolescents’ literature. So, they are of particular importance and interest to the present study. The relevance of the thesis is due to the lack of sufficient research dedicated to the analysis of the binary oppositions in traditional and modern English fairy tales and contemporary fantasy literature and the need for a more in-depth study of their role for the fairy tale genre. The aim of the paper is the study of binary oppositions in traditional English folk tales, contemporary English fairy tales and fantasy literature.enBinary Oppositions in Fairy TalesМагістерська робота
